Revert SmartSVN community to an email list

After a few weeks of this new forum thing, I find it incredibly clunky compared to the good-old email lists:  1. I actually have to manually subscribe to each forum to see new messages, which was not super-easy to find.  2. I have to click links in my email to see replies to my threads, as opposed to just getting the messages. Lame.  3. Subscribing to forums gives you non-informative emails saying when a new thread is created or an old thread is updated, but no information about the posting. It doesn't even inhibit the notification when I'm the one doing the posting.    Forums are definitely *not* an improvement over email lists.

Hi Bryce,   Thanks for your feedback. Let me look into a few of those issues for you.

Ok, I've investigated the issues you reported.   re 1) I agree, this could be easier to find, I'll make sure that gets changed next time we update the forum.  re 2) and 3), this is a limitation of the forum software we use (vbulletin). I'm currently investigating whether this is resolved in an upcoming version, if so we'll look to upgrade when released.   On a more general note, this forum has been much busier than the mailing list, even in the short time that it's been up and running. Whether that's just down to the new-ness, or whether people in general prefer forums I don't know, I guess time will give more indication of that.   Realistically, we'll be keeping the mailing list running for some time, and if the consensus of other users reflect yours then we'll look to take a decision then. It may make sense to us to keep all the products together in one forum, but the point of a community it's that it's user-led, so I for one am fairly relaxed about where the discussion actually takes place.

I don't really think that works - at least it didn't for my mental process. I assumed that the forums were the new thing and that I should use them to the exclusion of the mailing list, even though I don't like it...

Yeah, I can see why you'd think that, but the mailing list does still work. There has only been one post in the last three weeks though, and it didn't look particularly busy before that (maybe three posts per week average).
