Hi there, I feel like a broken record now (as there have been a few threads re slow performance in 7.5.0 and 7.5.1) but we made a bunch of improvements in 7.5.2. Can you update and let me know if you still have a problem please?
kromped
Yes, I see a dramatic improvement on the performance of 7.5.2; however, large files ~3k lines still have performance issues. Anyway you guys can do a partial cache?
Mand
Thanks for running the upgrade and retesting, I'll play about with some large files and get a bug raised.
Mand
Does it make a difference if you change the refresh time to 1 min? (Preferences > Transactions > change to 1 min)
kromped
Nope. I don't notice any difference. Annotating a file takes 2-5 minutes for a ~3k line file. The progress bar at the bottom says 1.3M in...and takes forever to load it up.
Mand
Can you give us a little more information about your environment (OS, auth setup etc) so that we can test this and see where the issues lay?
kromped
Thanks Mand for looking into the problem, and I appreciate you and your team for looking into the issues. I'm done with SmartSVN. I'm so disappointed with how slow it is now I held on as long as I could. I love the product when it used to be good, now it is unusable in real time. I can't view annotations, view logs, or even recent revision changes without having to wait like 30+ seconds, sometime even 5 minute! I'm switching to another product. I'm not going to spend my time tweaking and optimizing my settings so it loads faster because as a user I shouldn't have to. I would advice you to look into developing for the Mac OSX and improve the app to a more stable and usable state. On a random thought, why is there a yellow notification that keeps popping up and asking me to clean up because it detects there is a performance degration? Every time I do an SVN UPDATE, this notification pops up asking me to clean. I don't want to click on the blinking yellow popup and another link that says "clean now". This either should be done automatically for me behind the scene somewhere. I'm sure you have a ton of things to work on. Enhancements, bug fixes, etc. But why make more features when the product is unusable? It really drives me crazy just sitting here waiting for the file to load up so I can see a diff in the log for a single line change, whereas my coworker can load it instantly using his app. It has been a good ride, and I'm sorry to say that I am leaving SmartSVN for good until things improve (if it ever does).
Mand
That's disappointing, but understandable when you're using a product in an environment where efficiency is king. That yellow popup generally gives you some other error information, which may or may not have been important with regards to this issue. I use SmartSVN on OS X and haven't noticed any slowdowns in 7.5.3 but I'll keep playing and try to break it :) Thanks for your input so far, and I'm sorry we weren't able to fix it in time for you.
