SmartSVN is not running

I am trying to setup version control for our organization and I have already installed the svn v.1.8.8 on one workstation hosting the repository. I am trying to install SmartSVN v8.6 on my workstation. I was not able to connect to the repository with Apache, and I wasn't able to make sense of the Apache logs to figure out what was the problem, so I changed to svnserver instead. I was able to temporarily connect with SmartSVN, but then it stopped working. When I try to start SmartSVN, it doesn't run...the process ends immediately. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. There are no error messages in the Windows event log. Both machines are Win7 x64.    If I use svn directly (svn commit svn://) , I am able to commit changes successfully.    I am sure I must have changed something that caused this to happen. I would appreciate help in identifying why SmartSVN fails to start now.

When you uninstalled/reinstalled, did you reboot between each part of the process? If so, perhaps try uninstalling, rebooting and removing all instances of SmartSVN from the registry before attempting a reinstall?  As for the connectivity issues, that sounds like a problem with the configuration on the repository server - did you select the web server as part of the install, and did you install it as a service? What settings did you put in?

Hello Matt,    Thanks for the recommendation. I also disabled my AV software as well and still not success. I do see the SmartSVN Status service running, but the SmartSVN client is still terminating as soon as it starts.    As for the repository server, I don't recall the exact settings I had selected. I do know that Apache was running (as a service) and the test page was accessible from other workstations. When I was trying to get connected via SmartSvn, there was some errors in the Apache error.log and I think the subversion.log as well. I never tried using the svn client with the http// access method.    Is there any logging the SmartSvn performs, or can be setup to perform that may indicate at what point it is failing?

Not sure if Subversion does, it's usually been the apache logs that I've looked through - but then if you didn't set up apache and use http to access the repo then there won't be any logs there unfortunately. The subversion log is I believe the history of commits and log messages rather than errors.

So it sounds like SmartSvn does not do its own logging....bummer. Then I am at a loss for identifying what is causing the failure. :(

Well it's a windows program so something might show in the event viewer?

Hi, I think it's because SmartSVN is based on an older version of Subversion and that's what you're being asked to upgrade - you should be able to get a later version from our website: https://www.wandisco.com/smartsvn/download  Hope that helps.
