Want to sync your mailing lists and web forums? Use M2F

Hi there,    Do you want to mirror your mailing lists and web forums? In essence, use the web forum and the mailing lists each as 2 diff interefaces to the same content and user-interaction delivery?    I recommend Mail2Forum: http://m2f.sourceforge.net    They are doing their work on phpBB, could work well for y'all here at SVNforum.org. Maybe at least in a test forum for now.    -Matt

Matt,  Thanks for the link, I have not seen this phpBB module before. Looks like it could be useful. One thing I would love to do is find a way to integrate this forum site with the official Subversion mailing lists. However, I do not believe that they use that module.    Perhaps someone has thoughts or ideas for achieving that type of integration?    Aaron

It'd be nice to have a read-only, searchable copy of the mailing lists on the forums. Probably don't want to enable copy-to-list since it'll probably end up getting a bunch of "test" posts and annoying the list users.

I understand one can do this with M2F. In fact, I think that's what originally started the M2F thought process.

Fyi: the forum-to-email-list link is done a per-forum basis, I believe...possibly avoiding the "test post" stuff that happens in the "fringe" forums...and possibly addressing your point?    Also note (if it wasn't already obvious): the M2F phpBB MOD allows you to take existing forums and link them to existing mailing lists. Forums and email lists need not be in the same server/domain/universe. M2F is essentially a mail-receiving-and-sending client to the list just like any other email client.    imho, any significant email list should have a web forum mirror...and to some extent vice versa. email list archive capability is poor (GNUmail/pipermail is soooo ugly and cumbersome) and webforums handle this well; web-forum email notification and msg management is poor...and this is the core benefit of email lists.    Someday I'll ask all the discussion-management technology people (NNTP, email, web forum, and CMS-like folks, among others) to all "get along" under the same umbrella with common-content-management-and-distribution paradigm...but that post of mine is a long ways off...and I'm not sure where I would post it first. email list? forum? newsgroup? (Why do I even have to make this decision? --hence one of the purposes of this future discussion. ;) )    -Matt
