Hi Andy,
Since WANdisco acquired the forum I've started keeping an eye out for Spam and Spammers and deleting it where I see it. Keeping them out completely with this particular version of PHPBB isn't easy, but I'm sure there's more we could be doing now as well as looking at bringing the forum software up to date.
Let me discuss this some more internally and I'll get back to you with our plan. In the mean time if you (or anyone else) has suggestions for what they would like to see change in this regard or ideas for combating forum spam in general (what works on other sites you use etc), then we'd love to hear from you.
Also, if you spot spam before I do, feel free to email me - iwild -at- wandisco -dot- com and I will be happy to address it.
Best Wishes,
Ian

We're certainly looking at this. In the short term it's a manual clearance effort so if anyone spots spam I'd appreciate you letting me know and we'll get it cleared asap. By this time tomorrow we will have an email address for reporting spam: report-spam@svnforum.org so if anyone spots anything they can mail the link there and we'll remove it ASAP.
Longer term we are hoping to upgrade the forum software which will give us a lot more options when it comes to preventing this at source (although it's always a hard balance between keeping out the spammers and making it easy for new users to register and post).
Best Wishes,
Ian

Hi Guys,
Just to say we've been discussing the spam problem and the most obvious thing we can do to improve the situation is use some of the features available in an alternative forum solution.
With PHPBB3, SMF or vBulletin there is a lot more we could do about this problem problem, not to mention a host of other improvements we could make at the same time.
What are people's thoughts on this?
Cheers,
Ian
